The time was 8:30 p.m. on July 4, 2021 — a warm Sunday and holiday evening — when Memphis Police officers responded to a shooting report at the EZ Express gas station at 2380 Frayser Boulevard in the Frayser neighborhood of north Memphis.
On arrival they found store employee Ali Al Saedy in the store’s doorway. Al Saedy, 52, had been sweeping the lot when a white vehicle drove by. Shots were fired.
He grabbed his chest and collapsed after struggling to the door. Al Saedy was pronounced dead by arriving Memphis Fire Department personnel. The shooter is unknown to police. Whether the incident was a random case of violence also is unknown.
